In March, three of the most anticipated restaurants in Arizona opened within a walkable stretch of Camelback Road while Scottsdale Art Week and the Celebration of Fine Art hit their final weekends. If you tried to book any of it on short notice, you already know how that went. What most residents miss is that the same restaurants are still here in July, the tourists are not, and the reservation grid is quietly the friendliest it has been all year. That grace period has an expiration date, and it is set by a single opening in McCormick Ranch at the end of August.
This is a planner for people who already live here. Where to eat while summer is still on your side, which rooftops actually deliver in triple-digit weather, and what to lock in before the fall pipeline resets everyone's booking habits.
The Spring Cohort You Can Now Walk Into
Start with the openings that were impossible in April. Din Tai Fung opened at Scottsdale Fashion Square at 7014 E Camelback Rd Suite 608 on April 20, and the internationally acclaimed Taiwanese restaurant drew long reservation waitlists and diners from across the state through spring. Summer weekday tables are a different animal. Two blocks west at Scottsdale Waterfront, BOA Steakhouse's Scottsdale kitchen is led by Executive Chef Brendan Collins, whose resume includes Michelin-starred kitchens in London and a run of acclaimed Los Angeles restaurants, and the location is the first in Arizona to feature a partnership with Four Sixes Ranch, with a signature 18-ounce dry-aged ribeye from the ranch anchoring the menu.
Up at Scottsdale Quarter, The Guest House opened on January 9, 2026, in the former Etta space, with a menu that features elevated New American cuisine including Tuna and Caviar Cones, the Butcher's Best Wagyu steak program, and tableside dish preparations. Over at Kierland Commons, the yellow-forward café that opened in the early days of January is the first Arizona location for the brand, with another set to open near Camelback. All four have moved past the launch scrum. None will be this bookable again once October arrives.
Rooftops That Actually Read in July
Old Town has always had more rooftop capacity than rooftop reasons. Summer thins the field to the concepts worth the elevator ride.
Cielito sits atop the new AC Hotel Scottsdale Old Town. TWG, an ethnic research and design consultancy led by anthropologist and concept strategist Alex Webb and award-winning chef and creative director Shon Foster, developed Cielito from the ground up, blending cultural research with culinary direction so that every element of the menu and mood emerges from an authentic understanding of the region. A few blocks away, Wolf by Vanderpump is open on the seventh floor of Caesars Republic Scottsdale, 6,500 square feet of rooftop space with a dramatic central bar and a globally inspired menu that extends to an eighth-floor veranda; the December opening confirmed that Scottsdale is no longer the market where national concepts test a cautious second location, it is where they bring the flagship version.
For a quieter version of the same idea, Allegra at The REMI Hotel is Scottsdale's rooftop escape on the 12th floor with nearly 360-degree views. Three rooftops, three different reasons to be up there, all with an August calendar that will look nothing like their December one.
The Old Town Concepts That Aren't on Rooftops
Not every worthwhile spring opening is above the third floor. Pinyon at 7363 E Scottsdale Mall brings coastal Mediterranean dining to Old Town with open-flame seafood and meats and house-made hummuses, from the Buck & Rider team. Telefèric Barcelona is already open and not yet at capacity, which was true in March and is more true now. And 40 LOVE, a restaurant lounge from co-founders Sean Mulholland and Avery Johnson Jr., developed in partnership with Niall Horan and DeAndre Hopkins, has settled into a rhythm that is easier to read on a Tuesday in July than a Saturday in February.
If your habit is a mid-morning bite instead of dinner, Santo Agave has launched weekday lunch service Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a menu designed for busy professionals and casual midday diners featuring carne asada tacos, the Santo Agave Burger with bacon jam and crispy onions, enchiladas, quesadillas, and elote-style street corn.
The August 25 Hinge
Here is where the summer window starts to close. Husband and wife James and Raenee Fox will expand Vecina to a second location in Scottsdale's McCormick Ranch, anticipated to open in late August, replacing Z'Tejas near Hayden Road and Via de Ventura. The address is 8300 Hayden Road, Suite D-101.
This is not another out-of-state concept testing a Scottsdale beachhead. Vecina was a James Beard Award semifinalist in 2020 for Best New Restaurant and was named Phoenix New Times' pick for Best New Restaurant the same year, and the restaurant continues to be among New Times' Top 50 Restaurants. The new Scottsdale location will feature design elements familiar to fans of the Arcadia original, including a mural by Arizona artist Tato Caraveo, wood accents, community tables, and a glass-enclosed wine room.
McCormick Ranch has been quietly starved for a room like this since Z'Tejas closed. Expect the first month of Vecina reservations to move the way Din Tai Fung's did in April, and expect that pressure to ripple through every other reservation on this list. The practical read: the restaurants you have been meaning to try before then will feel a lot easier to book in July and early August than they will after Labor Day.
The Fall Pipeline That Will Reset Everyone's Calendar
Behind Vecina, four more openings are already dated:
- Ponderosa, from longtime Scottsdale restaurateurs Jacob Finley and Dale Jodoin, coming to Old Town. As Jodoin put it, "Ponderosa chose Old Town Scottsdale because its blend of tourism and residential growth perfectly complements our vision. As Old Town restaurant veterans, we aim to enhance Scottsdale's reputation for hospitality, unique dining, and a vibrant atmosphere."
- Drake's Hollywood, moving into the former Buca di Beppo space with an 8,000-square-foot cinematic interior, later in 2026.
- DEPWAH, a French-Vietnamese concept with a rooftop lounge and espresso bar focused on Vietnamese coffee and matcha.
- The expanded Old Town Tavern. In July, the city council approved owner Paul Mitchell's business model unanimously, splitting the tavern into two businesses: the original Old Town Tavern and a restaurant and lounge in the new space.
Each of these will pull attention, press, and Saturday reservations away from the spring cohort as they open. That is why summer, counterintuitively, is the moment to work through the March list.
The City Is Actively Making the Walk Better
Old Town is under construction on your behalf. Scottsdale's $47 million investment in Old Town is aimed at enhancing infrastructure, business support, and tourism strategies for long-term vitality. That money is not abstract. The Old Town Pavement Improvement Project is improving the quality of streets, alleyways and parking lots through October 2025, including fog sealing, micro sealing, and mill-and-overlay treatments across nearly 374,000 square yards of asphalt. A second phase of streetscape beautification is proposed in the FY 2026/27 budget with expanded tree planting, street furniture, and wayfinding, along with new Fifth Avenue monument signs to strengthen district identity.
While the infrastructure work continues, the free evening programming keeps running. Old Town Scottsdale is home to more than 100 art galleries, and for over 50 years the Scottsdale Arts District has been welcoming visitors to the Scottsdale ArtWalk on Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m., with many galleries offering refreshments, live music, and special exhibits. A Thursday ArtWalk into a summer dinner reservation at Pinyon or Cielito is the itinerary that will be much harder to execute in November.
Further north, on select Saturday evenings in June and July, Scottsdale Quarter typically hosts its free Summer Concert Series on The Quad, which pairs neatly with a table at The Guest House across the property.
How to Use the Next Six Weeks
The through-line is a timing argument, not a taste argument. All of the openings above will still be here in December. Very few of them will still be quietly available on a Friday at 7:30 in December. From now through the middle of August, the market is unusually forgiving. From late August through October, Vecina lands, Ponderosa opens, the fall arrivals stack, and the city's snowbird population starts to return. The math changes.
For residents deciding where to spend a Saturday, that translates to a short and specific to-do list. Book the Camelback three, Din Tai Fung, BOA, and The Guest House, before Labor Day. Do a rooftop night at Cielito or Wolf by Vanderpump while the wait for the elevator is under five minutes. Save one weekend in late August or early September for Vecina's soft-opening window in McCormick Ranch. Keep Ponderosa, Drake's Hollywood, and DEPWAH on the watch list, not the calendar, until their opening weeks are actually announced.
